HOW TO PAINT WATERCOLOUR LANDSCAPES BOOK

My book has sadly just gone out of print and I no longer have any copies to sell, if anyone wants to purchase the book try Amazon for the last remaining copies. The book however which has already been previously translated into Italian has now been translated into French as “Je Peins, Les Paysages A L’Aquarelle” and is on sale now in France.

SATURDAY WATERCOLOUR LANDSCAPES AT BRAMCOTE, NOTTINGHAM

We had a very colourful day at the Saturday workshop ‘Oriental poppies’, the pictures below show my finished painting and two of the students with their completed paintings. The workshops are booking up fast so I have added a new date to the list, 16th March ‘Dramatic skies and sunsets”. The dates and subjects of the Saturday workshops are on the teaching page, also at the bottom of that page there are some new photos of the Painting breaks held in the summer.

WATERCOLOUR WORKSHOPS BRAMCOTE, NOTTINGHAM

We all enjoyed the first workshop of the new season painting Meconopsis blue poppies. Clementine (pictured here with me) had bought the French translation of my book, looked up my workshops on my website and made an impressive journey from Belgium to be with us on the day.

LATEST SKETCHES

Here I am enjoying the sunshine on holiday in beautiful Trogir in Croatia. I always take my sketchbook away with me preferring to do some quick pen and wash sketches rather than a detailed painting. I decided to frame one of my coloured sketches to hang on my wall to remind me of my lovely holiday.

WATERCOLOUR WORKSHOPS FOR ART SOCIETIES

I enjoy visiting and teaching watercolours to Art groups, here are some of the members of the Gainsborough art group with their paintings achieved at the workshop. The subject for this workshop was ‘Animals and wildlife in pen and wash’. I demonstrated the tiger painting in stages (finished painting shown below) for the group, some chose to paint the stages along with me and other painted different wildlife subjects with my guidance using the photos I supplied.

PATCHING ART FESTIVAL 2016

I will be exhibiting my watercolour paintings at Patchings Art Festival, Calverton, Nottinghamshire, on the 9th-12th June in the Painting marquee. Please come along and say hello.

MAIMERIBLU WATERCOLOURS

I've been experimenting with the lovely bright MaimeriBlu Artist quality watercolours and here is a tulip flower that I’ve painted using sandal red, cobalt blue and cadmium yellow. Before painting the flower I made a colour chart of all my new paints so that I could see exactly what each colour looked like when it was diluted with water. These paints can be bought from the SAA art catalogue www.saa.co.uk.

WATERCOLOUR PAINTING HOLIDAY IN DERBYSHIRE 2015

I have just returned from teaching on my Painting Holiday at Cromford, Derbyshire (Tues 5th-Thurs 7th May.) We painted a landscape scene step by step on the first day in the garden studio situated in the picturesque grounds of Alison House Hotel.  Wednesday was a bit of a washout on location at Ashford in the water but we managed to do some quick sketches and reference photos to take back to the studio. Thursday we painted bright yellow sunflowers exploring different experimental techniques. The food as usual at the hotel was delicious and the staff are always very friendly, I’m looking forward to returning in July for my next painting break.

I HAVE WRITTEN A BOOK!

Published by Search Press, How To Paint Watercolour Landscapes was released in October 2010 in the UK.

Reviewed by Artists & Illustrators
Sept 10 Watercolour is given a bit of a pep with Gwen Scott's individual techniques, which include masking, sponging and stippling, along with more basic methods. In the book's introduction Scott emphasises her interest in colour, which sets the tone for the rest of the volume. After the usual 'what you'll need' pages, this is a fairly unique journey into how to use watercolour paint to its most vibrant effect. Not for Scott the washed-out subtlety often associated with the medium. Clear images of a textured sponge making cloudy trees, or masking fluid used beneath the fiery reds of autumnal foliage, show how unusual techniques can really make watercolour come alive.
